The idea for the Mid-Bloom series when I saw an image of a child looking up at the viewer. Something in the child's face looking directly at me compelled me to ask what are they trying to say to me. It made me think how kids tend to communicate feelings even without the vocabulary to explain it.
I wanted to use that look to capture that nonverbal language with the child looking at you. The flowers, which represents growth, are used to form a contextual frame around the the child expressions, leaving the viewer to ask, what are they saying to me.
